This smart tennis ball machine tracks your movement, adapts to your game, and delivers full-court drills with pro-level speed, spin, and versatility.
When you’re practicing, nothing beats training with a good partner. You get real-time feedback on your shots and varied ball responses that help develop court coverage and anticipation. Simulating match conditions improves point construction, strategy, and mental focus to prepare for competition. The Pongbot Pace S Pro ball machine puts that notion to the test.
Design & Portability
At first glance, the robot has a Star Wars droid vibe. Not including its detachable ball hopper/cover, it measures roughly 19×17×13 inches and weighs over 45 pounds. Metal grab handles help with lifting, while a telescopic pull handle and luggage wheels aid in transporting it.
It comes with a portable, rechargeable battery that provides up to eight hours of power. A control panel on the side includes an on/off switch, quick start/stop button, and USB port. The remote control, which syncs with the app, operates the machine and its full features. Three smart trackers enable AI capabilities and are rechargeable via the included 4-in-1 cable.
Drill Library & Customization
Once the 150-ball hopper is loaded, the machine can fire balls via the remote or app. The app, connecting via Bluetooth, provides a larger screen and easier access to features.
The Pace S Pro offers 564 programmed drills ranging from simple ground strokes to full-court multi-shot combinations. It can be positioned at six spots on the court to vary feeding angles. Balls reach up to 80 MPH with spins up to 3600 RPM. Drills can run by time or rounds.
Custom drills allow up to 46 balls per sequence with programmable speed, spin, height, location, and depth. Preset shots are also available, and user-created drills can be uploaded to the app library for others.
AI Features
The machine recognizes and follows the player’s court location in real time using three small trackers clipped to the net and player. This enables Smart Pace activities:
- Adaptive Rally: Feeds balls to wherever the player is standing. Difficulty adjusts via a simple slider.
- Recovery Trigger: Delivers balls only after the player returns to a designated zone, emphasizing footwork.
- Match Challenge Mode: Simulates points with dynamic shot sequences based on player position and movement. Tracks a running score (“combos”).
Overall, the AI component adds value but occasionally misreads player positions, resulting in errant shots. Match mode shot sequencing may sometimes be inconsistent.
Conclusion
The Pace S Pro is one of the most advanced tennis practice systems available, creating a more realistic training experience than traditional ball machines—even if it’s not a true replacement for a real partner.
